Identifying and Enjoying Birds

This course will again be offered in the Spring of 2012, beginning Tuesday, March 27.

The course is offered through the Adult Learning Center of the Grand Forks Public Schools and will run for six weeks on Tuesday evenings, from 7-9 PM. The class will meet at the Standford Center, Room 11. Beginning the 2nd week, those enrolling in the course may elect to meet at 6 PM for a short birding walk along the English Coulee. The timing of the course offering coincides with the start of spring migration and continues until many of the region's nesters have returned. The course is open to anyone interested in learning more about birds.  Dave Lambeth is the instructor.

The course description is as follows:
Discover the world of birds. Topics to be covered include birding equipment, field guides, sound recordings, Internet resources, bird behavior, backyard bird feeding and watching, bird habitats, migration and photography.  A part of each session will be devoted to buidling skills in bird identification.

Extensive use will be made of images of birds taken locally using digital cameras. The multimedia package by Thayer will also be used along with videos available on the Internet. Persons taking the course should obtain one of the recently published bird guides (choosing between the guides will be discussed at the first meeting), and also own a pair of binoculars (how to pick a pair will also be discussed.).  Persons taking the course will be able to join field trips offered by the Grand Cities Bird Club.

To enroll in this course: phone 701-795-2777 and speak to Lu, or e-mail ACE@gfschools.org. The cost of the course is $25.
